Even stereo mixes can be processed with perfect phase alignment. Whether it's squeezing a 35-second commercial into a 30-second spot, matching the tempo of a rhythmic loop, or transposing an entire mix, SPEED is the ultimate tool for time and pitch modification.

SPEED is now available as a plug-in for ProTools HD|Accel, HD, Mix, Digi-001, Digi-002, Mbox, and any other system that supports the Digidesign AudioSuite plug-in format.

Simple Control Panel

SPEED offers three different control panels. The simplest, shown here, make adjusting tempo and pitch as easy as a twist of the knob. No obscure parameter adjustments - just dial in the amount of tempo and pitch change you'd like, press process and you're done! The tempo and pitch can be adjusted in different units (percentage of tempo, length, pitch in semitones, cents, or frequency ratio), easily selected by clicking on the small triangles next to the Tempo and Pitch controls.

With SPEED, you can also preview the tempo and pitch change in real-time (on a fast enough computer), before committing the changes to disk.

Graphical Control Panel

When we first demonstrated SPEED at the NAMM conference in LA, the most popular request was for some way of creating a time-varying tempo change. We agreed that this would be a useful feature, but we also wanted to put a creative spin on this. Introducing the SPEED's unique Graphical tempo and pitch change control panel. Want to create an accelerando on a full music mix? No problem - just draw one in. The graph editing works just like ProTools automation, with complete control over pitch and time.You can even create a cool special effect in the graph mode, and save it as a preset!

Calculator Control Panel

When it's time to get some real work done, SPEED's Calculator control panel is an indispensable tool. This control panel is designed to make it easy to transform almost any tempo, length, or musical key to any other.

Need to shorten a 33.87 second region to exactly 30 seconds? No problem, just type in the desired region length, and SPEED automatically calculates the amount of time compression needed. Press process, and you're done. Need to change a 100BPM loop to 120 BPM, and change key from G to F? No problem. Or change a piano track that wasn't tuned to A440 back to standard tuning? All of this is easy with SPEED.

Using PurePitch, you can easily create realistic harmony parts from a lead vocal or instrument, deepen a vocal part without changing it's pitch, or add vibrato to a flat performance. For voice-over work, PurePitch can be used to alter the formants and pitch inflections of a speaker, producing subtle character alterations, or more extreme gender and species morphing effects. PurePitch includes over 50 preset patches for music production, sound design, and post-production. And it's only available for Digidesign's TDM hardware system...

Control Pitch and Formants Independently

The formant knob on PurePitch is something that needs to be heard to be believed. In small amounts, create alter-ego singers and subtle double-track effects. Or instantly morph vocal character from evil aliens to small furry animals and back again. This mind-blowing effect can even be modulated with the built-in LFO! The pitch and formant sliders make it easy to create radical vocal sounds perfect for game designers, animated characters or sound design.

Modulation

With multi-waveform modulation of pitch, formant, and amplitude, PurePitch can create effects that range from subtle chorus and doubling to extreme sonic mutilations.

Expression

PurePitch's exclusive expression processor modifies the pitch inflections of a vocal signal, enabling the emotional content of dialogue tracks to be modulated, in subtle, or not-so-subtle amounts.

Use PurePitch's on-screen keyboard to create musically useful harmony vocals - without another singer. All harmony intervals can be easily recorded and edited using ProTools' automation.

Chorus and Doubling

Slight amounts of pitch shift and formant alteration are by far the best way to create realistic doubling and chorus effects. Variations of this incredibly useful effect are created with the built-in LFO and delay line.

 

Dialogue Enhancement

The expression processor of PurePitch can modify the pitch envelope, similar to what a compressor does to the level of a signal. This enables the emotional content of dialogue tracks to be modulated, in either subtle or not-so-subtle amounts.

 

Spaced Out

Long delays, lots of feedback, and pitch, formant and amplitude modulation are the raw material for some funky, spacey, and beautiful effects.

When an out-of-tune performance is a problem, PitchDoctor is nothing less than a session-saving miracle. Simply enter the desired key and scale, and Pitch Doctor automatically adjusts the intonation of any out-of-tune notes. Because Pitch Doctor is the only intonation correction plug-in with total automation and uses PurePitch's formant-preserving quality (no chipmunks!), it's the only choice for truly challenging correction work, and it's only available for Digidesign's TDM hardware system...

itch Doctor's on-screen keyboard displays the musical scale used for pitch correction, allowing easy scale customization while also providing a visual readout of the detected note. Since Pitch Doctor is fully automatible, the key, scale, and even scale customizations may be changed in mid-track.

Shift Mode

Pitch Doctor is the only intonation correction plug-in with PurePitch's formant-preserving quality. This eliminates the 'chipmunk' effect common to most pitch shifters, and gives PitchDoctor a wider usable pitch shift range.

Score Control

With score control, simply specify the correct melody, and Pitch Doctor will smoothly modify your performance to bring it into perfect pitch. The score editing feature, as shown below, works seamlessly with ProTools' automation editor, allowing easy, and intuitive editing of the desired musical score.

Manual Pitch Correction Even with Pitch Doctor's automated pitch correction, it can still be useful to manually specify the pitch correction amount. Pitch Doctor provides a large, high-resolution pitch correction fader. The manual correction fader can either be used alone, or in conjunction with the automatic pitch correction mode. Like the other parameters in Pitch Doctor, the manual pitch correction data is easily editable in Pro Tools' automation window.

Using a Guide Track

Using Pitch Doctor's score generation feature, any instrument can be used to create a score to guide PitchDoctor through the pitch correction process. In the example shown here, a guitar track is used to create the correction score for the lead vocal. Once the correction score has been created, simply copy and paste the automation data from the guide track to the track to be corrected.

Presets

The reality in most working studios is that time is a precious commodity, and it's often not possible to spend the time necessary to learn all the features of all of the new products in today's recording studios. Because of this, we've spent months creating over two hundred effects processing patches. We take full advantage of the preset manager that's built in to ProTools, making it easy to find the sound that you're looking for. BPM Control

With a master BPM control, easily synchronize delay and modulation effects to the tempo of your song. All delay settings and LFO rates have the option of BPM-based control, or independent time or frequency settings

Modulation

At the heart of SoundBlender's power are 3 modulation sources that can be mixed and routed to any of dozens of effect parameters. The modulators are very flexible with control over duty cycle, polarity, trigger thresholds, and attack and decay smoothing. The available modulation types are:

SideChain

The sidechain input can be used as a trigger source with any of the modulators. This is useful to synchronize triggered effects to a rhythm track, or to create ducked effects.

PitchBlender

Pitch Shifting: Two channels of very high-quality conventional pitch shifting. Pitch shift range of +/- 2 octaves. The pitch-shifters are optimized for small-interval pitch-shifting which is extremely useful in creating realistic and clean chorus and double-track effects. The output level and panning of each pitch shifter may be adjusted by on-screen faders, and smoothly modulated by the modulation matrix.

Pitch Mapping: Each pitch shifter can use intelligent pitch processing for musically useful diatonic interval transposition. PitchBlender also introduces a unique diatonic arpeggiation feature. Any modulation source may be used to control the pitch-shift interval to create interesting in-key arpeggiation and randomized harmony effects. A wide variety of western and ethnic scales are available, making it easy to create some very exotic pitch textures.

Delay: Two channels of smoothly modulatable delay. Each channel has up to 650 milliseconds of delay available. The output level and panning of each delay line may be adjusted by on-screen faders, and smoothly modulated by the modulation matrix.

Filtering: Two channels of high-quality filters. Each filter may be configured as a lowpass, highpass, bandpass or notch filter. Each filter has adjustable center frequency and resonance control. Center frequency can be modulated by the modulation matrix.

Feedback: PitchBlender has many signal flow and feedback options. This allows a wide variety of very rich signal-processing effects.

TimeBlender Specifications

Reverse Pitch Shifting: Originally created to mimic the backwards tape effects, a reverse pitch-shifter samples sections of the input audio, and plays them backwards. TimeBlender has two channels of reverse pitch-shifting. Each channel can sample segments as large a 1000 milliseconds, and can vary the playback pitch of each segment over a two-octave range.
