Presenting the new 12-inch PowerBook G4, featuring a brilliant 12-inch active-matrix display housed in a durable aluminum alloy enclosure weighing just 4.6 pounds. The most compact full-featured notebook in the world starts at just $2,899

It’s the smallest portable we’ve ever shipped. In terms of volume (measured in cubic inches), the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is smaller than the iBook and even the PowerBook Duo, and yet it features a slot-loading combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW). The 12-inch PowerBook G4 packs formidable processing power for busgraphic design and editing digital video — not to mention playing 3D games, listening to music and watching DVD movies between flights.

Leading-edge industrial design

You’ll love the high-resolution 12.1-inch TFT XGA active-matrix display with brilliant 1024-by-768-pixel resolution. And you’ll marvel at the way we’ve fitted this supersharp display into such a remarkably small frame — just 10.9 inches wide, 8.6 inches deep, 1.18 inches thin and weighing a mere 4.6 pounds. Housed in a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy enclosure, the PowerBook G4 is resistant to stains and scratches. I’s also perfectly smooth on all surfaces, with no doors, protruding latches or levers to break, no external buttons to accidentally press, and no sharp edges to catch on your clothing.

54Mbps AirPort Extreme — up to 5 times faster
Pop in the new AirPort Extreme Card in your 12-inch PowerBook’s AirPort slot, and you’re ready for 54Mbps wireless networking. And with thousands of wirelessly-enabled “hot spots” in hotels, airport lounges, coffee shops and bookstores around the world, you can get online from practically anywhere. What’s more, you can use your PowerBook G4, AirPort Extreme and Rendezvous — the technology that recognizes and links computers and digital devices to each other — to create your own secure wireless network.

The Bluetooth connection
Bluetooth, built-in to the new 12-inch PowerBook G4 model, connects digital devices wirelessly. Operating within a much shorter range than AirPort, it enables high-speed wireless data transfers between a rapidly growing list of Bluetooth-savvy products. Using iSync, for instance, you can use Bluetooth to synchronize your personal information between your PowerBook, your mobile phone and your Palm OS-based handheld. And Bluetooth lets you take advantage of GPRS connectivity to check your email from anywhere — a benefit that comes in handy on those occasions when a 802.11 wireless hotspot isn’t available.

PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine

This 867MHz PowerBook G4 delivers blazing-fast performance thanks to its processor’s aptly named Velocity Engine, which processes data in huge 128-bit chunks, instead of the 32-bit or 64-bit chunks used in traditional processors. The PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine works with the PowerPC architecture to accelerate the data-intensive processing required by next-generation video, voice and graphics applications.

Lightning-fast graphics
The new 12-inch PowerBook G4 ships with the NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go graphics processor with 32MB of DDR SDRAM. Kicking 3D graphics performance into overdrive with hardware transform and lighting (T&L), per-pixel shading and astonishing effects at high resolutions, the NVIDIA GeForce4 takes over the transform and lighting calculation functions from the PowerBook’s central processing unit (CPU), freeing it to complete its tasks faster than ever.

Think big back at the office
The new 12-inch PowerBook G4 comes with built-in support for VGA, S-Video and composite video signals. And since VGA video output supports dual display mode and video mirroring, you can extend your work area and mirror your projects to an external display or projector — perfect for presentations and for sharing your ideas. You can also display your multimedia projects on a big-screen TV, thanks to S-Video output capability: Simply connect your TV to the video output port via the included Apple video adapter, and you’re on television.

Choose from three ultrafast models: small, medium or epic
Starting from just $2,899, the new PowerBook gives you supercomputing power in a choice of three ultrafast portables. They range from a 12-inch model — the smallest, most affordable PowerBook G4 ever — to the 15-inch Titanium beauty, and the world’s first 17-inch notebook computer. So you can be as effective on the road as you are at your desk — accomplishing everything from rendering huge image files to crunching digital video — faster than ever before.
