FXpansion BFD Big Orchestral & Marching Band: expansion pack

BFD Big Orchestral Marching Band is a spectacular new expansion pack for BFD 1.5 and BFD2, delivering a heavy payload of orchestral and marching drum instruments to your percussive arsenal.

The included sounds were conceived to fuel new creative adventures in all forms of music. Its marching snares offer explosive crack and punch, and the quad toms and hand cymbals are great alternatives to standard drum set toms and crashes. Meanwhile, the tonal bass drums rival celebrated analog drum machines for sheer low-end weight and power. The orchestral timpani and chimes, sampled over 1.5 octaves, are great for melodic lines or sound design.

All the sounds are recorded using carefully selected high-end equipment to capture the dynamics and sonic beauty of these instruments. As always with a BFD-compatible expansion pack, multiple mic positions, articulations and velocity layers are provided - most sounds feature up to 50 velocity layers, with many snares offering even higher levels of detail. BFD Big Orchestral Marching Band also includes a suite of Grooves allowing you to inject classic hip-hop street beats, drum-corps and marching performances into your music.

Highlights:
  • Expansion pack for BFD1.5 & BFD2 with 38GB of new sounds
  • Set of four timpani covering 1.5 octaves, each pitch recorded with felt and wood mallets
  • Full set of orchestral chimes covering 1.5 octaves
  • 4 tonal bass drums with multiple beaters
  • Concert bass drums including a 40" played with three different beaters
  • Marching quad toms played with sticks, mallets, and hotrods

BFD B.O.M.B: Big Orchestral & Marching band expansion pack for BFD1.5 & BFD2

Featuring a diverse range of marching and orchestral percussion, BFD Big Orchestral Marching Band is perfectly suited for all forms of music.
Big Orchestral

The full chromatic set of Orchestral Chimes and Timpani can be used for melodic lines, perfect for film and commercial composition, for complementing classic rock tracks, or for creative sound design. The tonal bass drums are floor-shaking alternatives to 808 kick drums, for making huge sub basses and storming hip-hop kicks, while the Brake drum (repurposed from an old Cadillac) is perfect for latin street percussion grooves.
Marching Band

Marching snares tend to be very cutting and are useful for all kinds of mixes. Quad toms are good for alternative tom sounds or percussive uses. BFD B.O.M.B offers some unique cymbal sounds. A variety of orchestral hand cymbals are provided, as well as suspended cymbals that don't have a cymbal stand to dampen their vibrations, meaning that they ring out longer and undisturbed compared to regular drumkit-based cymbals. These kinds of instruments can offer new flavours for mixes of all kinds, from rock to R&B.
In Your Mix

The use of carefully selected hi-end recording equipment and professional performances from experienced personnel contribute to the exceptional dynamic range and sonic beauty of the sounds, making them ideal source material for a huge variety of uses. The instruments will sit perfectly in your mix, but because they do not have any additional processing, you can sculpt them into exactly what you need for your next musical adventure.

Meticulously Recorded

BFD B.O.M.B was produced, recorded and edited by John Emrich, creator of BFD Jazz & Funk and BFD Percussion. The collection was recorded at Omega Studios, Rockville, Maryland. In December of 2006, John retired from the US Navy Band, Washington, DC as a Chief Musician. In his 20 year career as a premier military musician, John has spent a great deal of time performing on drums of all shapes and sizes for visiting dignitaries and heads of state, including performances with marching instruments. As well as this, John is an experienced studio engineer, giving him the perfect background for putting together BFD Big Orchestral Marching Band.
